SLSMA contributed to include the Sports Medicine lecture module at the Diploma in Family Medicine Course at Post Graduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM) in University of Colombo . SLSMA members conducted the lectures as the beginning of Sports Medicine teaching at the PGIM .
SLSMA submitted a syllabus for basic level Sports Medicine for Physical Instructors for the Ministry of Sports in Sri Lanka.
SLSMA initiated and submitted a proposal to the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo to conduct the Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine.

6th Scientific Congress of Asian Federation of Sports Medicine and the Team Physician development Course (TPDC) in Colombo.
The sixth Asian Congress of Sports Medicine and the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) Team Physician Development Course (TPDC) wereheld from 23rd to 26th October 2003 in Colombo.
The theme of the congress was ” Sports Medicine for health and fitness for all”, and it was hosted by the Sri Lanka Sports Medicine Association under the auspices of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
There were nearly 200 medical doctors who attended the congress and successfully completed the FIMS-TPDC.
2005-2007
First Scientific Session of Sri Lanka Sports Medicine Association – in Colombo
The first Scientific Sessions on Sports Medicine of the SLSMA were held on 13th & 14th August 2005 at the Sri Lanka Medical Association – Lionel Memorial Auditorium, Wijerama House, Colombo 7.
In this pioneering venture, there were over 170 participants which included local and foreign experts in the field of sports medicine, medical officers and medical students. Prof. H. Sheriffdeen, Emeritus Professor of Surgery and President of the Sri Lanka Medical Association was the chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony.
Seminars , symposia, workshops and a free paper session were conducted during the two day period by resource persons, both foreign and local.
Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine Course in Collaboration with Past Graduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM) , University of Colombo
As a result of the tireless efforts by SLSMA sub committee and the other parties who work for the development and institute the curriculum of post graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine at the PGIM , the Board of Study successfully held its selection examination for candidates in May 2006. There were 20 doctors selected to undergo training at the first batch of Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine.

Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine Course
Candidates for 2nd and 3rd batches for the post graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine were recruited and the course for the 2nd batch was successfully completed.
Education and Service in Sports Medicine
Many SLSMA members contributed to uplift the knowledge and the Sports medicine services towards Sports Clubs and schools. They conducted seminars, workshop and offered medical coverage for tournaments and events.
Medical coverage and participation for International Sports Events
SLSMA members participated as team physicians at the South Asian Federation (SAF)Games–Dhaka-Bangladesh and offered their services in-collaboration with international Sports Medical expertise at the Commonwealth Games –Delhi-India.

- Lecture on Sport Physiotherapy – Mrs. Rozani Senanayake, Sports Physiotherapist from USA delivered a lecture for the diploma holders in Sports Medicine on 18th December 2010 at PGIM Colombo.

AFSM ex co members , the experts in Sports Medicine conducted a Sports Medicine Education Programme – seminar at the auditorium of the Olympic House on 26th February 2011. The following Speakers delivered the presentations during this programme.

This whole event was organized by Sri Lanka Sports Medicine Association (SLSMA) in collaboration with National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka.
- ‘Sports Medicine Course for Doctors’ organize by the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka from 10th to 12th of September 2010. SLSMA members gave their contribution as resource persons. There were 132 doctors participated in this course and all were certified.
- Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation workshop in collaboration with Global Hospital India. This was held in Kandy on 29.10.2011. There were 156 participants include doctors , physiotherapists and sports trainers. Dr.S Saunder .Senior Consultant in Physical Rehabilitation and Sports Rehabilitaion, Dr.Ajith Yadav, Senior Consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery and joint Replacement and Dr.J.V.S.Vidyasagar , Head of the department in Orthopaedic Surgery and joint Replacement from Global Hospital India conducted this programme.
5.SLSMA members provided their expertise in Diploma in Sports Science Course and the MSC in Sports Science at Faculty of Medicine , University of Peradeniya. 2011-2013.

- SLMA – Southern Regional Conference ( 23th January 2012): Guest lecture by Dr.Dr.C.Thurairaja on “ Exercise & Physical Activities for the prevention of NCD”.
- Sports Medicine Course – NOC – SLSMA on 12.02.2012 at the National Olympic Committee. SLSMA members conducted the majority of Lectures of this programme. There were 130 doctors and other sports related scientists participated.
- Workshop on Taping and Podiatry , 12th February 2013 in Kandy. Resource Persons: Mrs Jose Van Nonspeet- Sports Physiotherapist , Mr.Nick Flore – Podiatrist from Netherlands . There were 122 of participants included doctors, physiotherapists and sports scientists.
- International Sports Medicine Conference 2012, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
“Enhancing Health and Sports Performance with Global Trends in Sports Medicine”
The International Sports Medicine Conference 2012 Colombo , Sri Lanka held from 24th to 26th August 2012 at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute , Independence Avenue , Colombo 07, Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka Sports Medicine Association (SLSMA), Sri Lankan Ministry of Sports , National Olympic Committee(NOC) of Sri Lanka and Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM) for the very first time took the joint privilege in making this event a realty .
An eminent panel of resource personnels conducted the programme. The panel comprised of both local and overseas professionals. The overseas panel of speakers from Australia, India, Holland, Iran, and Malaysia in par with local experts in the relevant field was an ideal combination to share the knowledge, skills and experience with the participants.
There were altogether 420 participants both local and international took part in this Conference.

SLSMA News bulletin – SLSMA released its first news bulletin named Sri Lanka Bulletin of Sports Medicine on 24th Monday January 2011. This was held during the Executive Committee Meeting of SLSMA at the Conference Room at Rheumatology Unit, National Hospital Sri Lanka(NHSL).
Later a copy of the news bulletin was presented to the Honorable Minister of Sports by SLSMA Ex Co members.

- Sports Medicine Promotion programme in Nepal
SLSMA members participate at the special programme of Sports Medicine promotion programme in Nepal. This was organized by the National Olympic Committee on Nepal.

Regional Sports Medicine Development programme in Maldives was conducted by SLSMA , and our members involved in promotion and awareness of Sports Medicine internationally.
- AFSM executive committee meeting 2011
Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM) executive committee meeting 2010 was held in Colombo on 25th February 2011. This was hosted by SLSMA and National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka. Dr.C.Thurairaja was appointed as the new president of AFSM during this meeting.

Dr.Wahid Ali Al Kharusi from Oman, the Immediate Past President of AFSM , Prof .M.Razi from Iran, Prof. Dr.Jaspal S.Sandhu from India, Prof .Gouping Li from China, Dr.Danish Zaheer from Brunei, Prof. Sakamoto Shizuo from Japan, Dr.Chanin Lamsam from Thailand, Dr.Abdullah A. Al Johar from Saudi Arabia , Dr. Vichai Vanadurongwan from Thailand, Dr.E.S.B.Ramanathan from Oman were present at this meeting and shared their experience and views with the SLSMA members.
- World Cricket Congress on Sports Medicine and Science 2011- Chndigarh, India (31st March -1st April 2011)
Dr .C Thurairaja from Sri Lanka delivered a presentation on ‘Elite Training in Young Cricketers in Sri Lanka’ on the first day of the Congress and made the Sri Lankan identity. He also made his contribution as a chairman of the plenary lecture – The business of science and medicine in cricket by Dr.Mark Portus from Australia.
Dr. H.J.Suraweera , Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon , the President of Sri Lanka Sports Medicine Association (SLSMA) was recognized during the Congress and his presence at the Congress made more recognition to the Sri Lankan delegates.
Dr.Asela J.B.Ratnayake , Secretary of Sri Lanka Sports Medicine Association was selected to this session as a Chairperson of the Scientific forum on the second day of the Congress.
Apart from the above there were another 15 Sports Medicine doctors from Sri Lanka participated at this congress. They all are members of Sri Lanka Sports Medicine Association.
SLSMA initiated and facilitate through the WCC organizing committee to all the Sri Lankan doctors , free transport , food and accommodation during the stay in India.
Indian association of Sports Medicine Conference – Coimbatore, Chennai, India
Dr.C.Thurairaja, Dr.H.J.Suraweera and Dr.Asela J.B.Ratnayake was invited for the Guest Speakers for Scientific Sessions, Team Physician Development Course and Physiotherapy in sports Course.
We could not attended this meeting due to the uncertain situation of the Tamil Nadu during this period.

4 th Scientific Sessions of Sri Lanka Sports Medicine Association
The 4 th Scientific Sessions of Sri Lanka Sports Medicine Association was held in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka , from 24 th to 26 th November 2018, at Olympic House , National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka , Colombo 7, Sri Lanka.
The theme of the Scientific Sessions this time was “ Exercise is Medicine Exercise is Wellness”. The Scientific Sessions Included Pre-Congress workshop , Main Scientific Programme and the Post Congress Workshop. These sessions were conducted at the main auditorium at Olympic House , National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka , Colombo 7, Sri Lanka.
The Inauguration Ceremony was on 24 th Saturday, November 2018 at the Eagle Hall , Waters Edge, Battaramulla. Sri Lanka.
An eminent panel of health professionals both local and international, shared their knowledge and experience with the participants at this Sports and Exercise Medicine Scientific Forum during the three day programme.
